Teaching of the Week #83

Teaching #83 Condition Dependent Happiness

When you are happy because the conditions of your life are pleasant, your well-being is dependent on conditions, and therefore ultimately is not reliable or lasting. As the Buddha taught, you cannot control conditions or prevent sukha from being replaced by dukkha.

Chapter 22, Pg 263-264

For your reflection: This week, observe those moments in your life when sukha is replaced by dukkha. They may be small moments of happiness, such as finding a parking space or enjoying a good meal, or something greater. But notice that when your happiness is based on conditions it always disappears or changes.
