Teaching of the Week #81

Teaching #81 The Courage To Be Happy

Your times of happiness and joy are just as valuable…and possess just as much potential for insight as your difficult moments. As with dukkha, you are called upon to have courage in order to be fully present in those moments of well-being. You are to feel them fully in your body, to know the quality of the mind when well-being manifests, and to learn the nature of this worldly existence as revealed by your sukha.

Chapter 22, Pg 262

For your reflection:
This week, notice what your mind does during moments when things are going well. Do you start thinking about how it could be better, or how you could have more of the source of happiness, or even start thinking about something else that’s unpleasant? When you catch your mind acting in this manner, go back to experiencing the happiness with gratitude.
