Teaching #79: The Call to Surrender Your Ego
Ajahn Sumedho says, “Your personality never gets enlightened.” When you are characterized by personality, but not defined by it, there is freedom in your response to life that comes from wisdom and compassion. You aren’t supposed to build your practice around “destroying your ego limitation,” rather you consciously go through your ego limitation in order to be freed from it.

For your reflection: Everyone has core ego attachments. If you look honestly and with patience, you will discover there is something that makes it challenging for you to stay on your spiritual path. Take an hour to reflect on what that might be. Write down each of the possibilities then a few days later go through the same process again. What do you need to surrender?
