Teaching of the Week #65

Teaching #65: Transcending the Ego

At this stage of [awareness] you cease to primarily identify with your ego sense of self … you have not become someone new—you have become more your true nature. When you act unskillfully, you are aware of it from the dharma perspective, not from your habitual mind, and you now do what needs to be done to find release from the suffering. You have many more moments when your mind is at ease with whatever conditions are arising.

Chapter 17, Pg 202-203

For your reflection: You may get a “taste” of transcendence during a heightened state of mind. This taste can inspire and deepen your practice. Reflect back, have you experienced such states of mind? Beware of your ego wanting to claim this taste to be the actual attainment of transcendence.
