Teaching of the Week #56

Teaching #56: Achieving Cessation Through Meditation Practice

An extended period of silent meditation practice is ideal for practicing cessation. In such an environment there is little disruption to your observing your mind. You investigate your emotions, body, mental processes, and other physical objects … You carefully and repeatedly note that all these objects are characterized by cessation.

Chapter 15, Pg 174-175

For your reflection: Set aside a four-hour period one day for silent meditation. During this time notice one thing over and over again: What is ending right now? When you first do this practice, it can be unsettling. If that starts to happen, notice that something new always replaces what has just ceased.
