Teaching of the Week #53

Teaching #53: Opening to the Truth of Cessation

Within the Buddhist teaching community there are differing opinions about what cessation is exactly … Ajahn Sumedho advises, “Do not feel as though you have to embrace any particular teacher’s interpretation of total cessation … Instead, let it be an open question: What is possible in the way of freedom for me, right now, just as I am?”

Chapter 14, Pg 157-158

For your reflection: You must cultivate don’t know mind in order to know the realization of cessation. Write down all of your views about cessation and then see for yourself that you really don’t know whether any of your opinions are true or not. This will help you cultivate the humility that is needed to open to the non-conceptual truth of cessation.
