Teaching of the Week #41

Teaching 41: The Black Hole of Clinging

Clinging to what you want is like being caught in the gravitational grip of a black hole… The only way to know the state of your mind when it is not caught in this cycle is to remove yourself from the gravitational pull of attachment. Thus, the Buddha tells you to penetrate desire by abandoning your attachment to it.

Chapter 10, Pg 101

For your reflection: This week notice that when you are caught in clinging to a goal, or an opinion, or a desire to be right how it has a “black hole” quality. Then notice how it feels when you interrupt that feeling of attachment even briefly. Each time you abandon clinging you are reconditioning your nervous system to not automatically go into clinging when desire arises.
