Teaching #23: Penetrating Dukkha

 

Once you penetrate dukkha with understanding and are willing to bear life just as it is, you regain your innate dignity and free yourself from fear. Experiencing the insights in the First Noble Truth is the beginning of a new noble possibility to be in direct relationship with life that allows you to respond to rather than react to the dukkha in your life.

For your reflection: Notice when fear is present and make it the object of your mindfulness practice. Fear can be felt as anxiety, tenseness, unease, a flushing sensation, or a surge of “flight or fight.” Can you separate your fearful reaction from the situation?
