Teaching of the Week #11

Teaching #11: Feeling "the ouch" of Suffering

“Suffering is to be known,” the Buddha said. This is the practice of the second insight of the First Noble Truth – penetrating dukkha directly. Penetration occurs when you consciously choose to be mindful of the actual experience of pain, stress, and emotional distraught as it manifests in your body, mind, and heart ... In order for you to know its true nature you must be with your suffering as a lived physical experience and willingly feel the “ouch” of it in your own life.

Chapter 5, Pg 39

For your reflection: When difficult situations arise, be curious about how they manifest in your body. Do you observe a pattern? Does the feeling in the body cause you to become even more reactive?
